A long beach between Arambol and Ashwem
Travel down North Goa from north to south and you pass Arambol, then Mandrem, then Ashwem and Morjim. Mandrem is known for its long beach and a slower rhythm than some of its busier neighbours. Nobody seems to be in a rush here, which suits yoga well.
Many people come for the mornings: get up early, step out where you can hear the sea, and stretch right away. A start like that tends to leave the body lighter and the head a little less crowded.
Here is how such a morning can go: you arrive a little early, roll out the mat and simply stand for a minute, listening to yourself. Then the teacher leads you from warm-up to the main part, and by the end the body is warmer and the breathing steadier.
What your body gets out of it
After a long flight or a week at a laptop, the back, hips and shoulders ask for attention first. Gentle classes such as hatha or yin loosen them gradually: poses are held calmly, with no jerking. A more dynamic vinyasa works if you want to wake up and warm through.
Regular practice trains flexibility and balance, and many people notice they fall asleep more easily. It is not a treatment and not a promise of results in a week, just a habit built from ordinary classes.
If you are unsure about a style, read the description on the map. Hatha suits a calm pace, yin offers long, soft holds, and vinyasa or ashtanga are for those who like to move. You can choose by mood and by how you feel that day.
Season and heat
The dry season in Goa runs roughly from November to March, and that is when Mandrem is liveliest. From June to September the monsoon arrives: some places close, the sea is rough, and classes are far fewer.
Even in season the middle of the day gets hot, so morning classes are the easiest. Bring water, light clothes and your own mat if you have one, and leave extra time for the road if you choose an evening class.
When planning your week, alternate active and gentle classes and leave a day free if the body is tired. Muscles get to rest, and the wish to step onto the mat comes back before the next class.
Teaching in Mandrem?
Aura is a working tool for yoga teachers: schedule, student bookings, a profile and reviews in one place. Students find you on the map and book on their own, without chasing messages in chats.
We are building the best tool we can for your work, and see students arriving as a result of it, with no promises. Publish your schedule and it will appear on the map for the area.
Aura works in Telegram with no sign-up. Everything goes through the mini app, and you can get the mobile app link by leaving your email on the page.
